“6th Annual Smart Grids and Smart Meters Summit”, Dubai, UAE – November 27 and 28, 2016
NEEDS had participated in the 6th Annual Smart Grids and Smart Meters Summit, as an Associate Sponsor, on November 27-28th, 2016, in Dubai, UAE. The main goal of this event is to Gain in-depth insights of Smart Grid infrastructure deployment and initiatives, Overcome scope management to achieve Smart Meters deployment, Develop better Distribution Management Systems for efficient responses, Explore cutting Edge Strategies of Smart Grids Deployments, Discover mash up of information varying from smart grid, customer behavior and Utilize Geographic Information System GIS as a powerful tool to support substation automation system. In addition, this summit emphasizes on the advantages of Energy Efficiency and usage of Renewable Energy to meet consumer demand and reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. “European Utility Week”, Barcelona, Spain - November 15 , 16 and 17, 2016
NEEDS had delegate participation in the European Utility Week, EUW16, that was held on November 15th to 17th, 2016, in Barcelona, Spain. European Utility Week, the leading event for the smart utility community, welcomed more than 12,000 visitors working in the fields of Cyber-security and IoT, Data Management and Analytics, ESCO and Energy Management, Energy Storage, Grid Optimization, Innovation, Intelligent Networks and Communications, Renewable Integration, Smart Cities, Smart Homes and End User Engagement, and Smart Metering. The event explored the challenges that encounter the utilities and the change required through innovations in the field of renewable and sustainable energy, customer driven utilities, and energy management and storage. Extensive sessions were conducted to elaborate the Intelligent Grid, Retail, Sustainable and Smart City, and ICT and Data Management.
“Ecomondo 2016” event, Rimini, Italy – November 8, 9, 10 and 11, 2016
NEEDS participated in the Ecomondo Green Technologies Expo that was held from November 8th to 11th, 2016, in Rimini, Italy, in the presence of more than 10,000 participants including CEOs, business owners, directors and field personnel, 1,200 companies represented by their SME’s, 1,500 speakers from private companies, organizations, technology and research centers, education institutions, and Government ministries, 160 exhibitors showcasing their latest technologies and solutions to more than 100,000 visitors from across the globe. Ecomondo is the largest showcase in the Euro-Mediterranean area for advanced and sustainable technology for processing and recycling all kinds of waste; treating and reclaiming water, waste water and polluted marine sites; efficient use and transformation of raw and processed materials, the promotion of renewable raw materials, and the latest power-gen and energy efficiency technologies and solutions. NEEDS attended various conferences during the event, conducted numerous business-to-business (B2B) meetings with leading innovators in the fields of energy efficiency, green technologies, and waste-to-energy to exchange ideas and discuss today’s business challenges in implementing advanced solutions in these fields. We also engaged industry specialists in various topics and visited various plants to understand the issues that are currently driving the industry to develop new solutions that are impacting the country’s population and economy.
“IOT Solutions World Congress (IOTSWC16)” event, Barcelona, Spain – October 25, 26 and 27, 2016
NEEDS had participated in the IOT Solutions World Congress (IOTSWC16) that was held from October 25th to 27th, 2016, in Barcelona – Spain. This congress is a leading global event focusing on IOT solutions in six dedicated areas: Business Transformation, Manufacturing, Healthcare, Energy & Utilities, Transportation & Logistics, Innovation and Technology. It offered a highly international environment with more than 170 Exhibiting Companies, 160 Top Industry Speakers, 10 Testbeds, and 100 Expert-led Sessions from 50 different countries.
Over 200 of the most innovative and influential IoT thinkers were gathered to share knowledge, present use cases and explain how IoT is affecting various types of industries with a participation of more than 8,000 leading industrial internet experts, end users and players including top CEOs, CIOs, and CTOs from the entire IoT ecosystem.

“ARFREEE” event League of Arab States - May 31, June 1 and 2, 2016
NEEDS had participated in the 3rd Arab Forum For Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency on June 1 and 2, 2016, back to back with the 32nd Meeting of the Executive Bureau of the Ministerial Council for Electricity held on May 31st, 2016, in the Intercontinental City Stars Hotel in Cairo - Egypt.
Under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Nabil El Araby, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, H.E. Dr. Mohammed Shaker, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy of the Republic of Egypt and Chairman of the Executive Bureau of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity, and with the cooperation of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE), and dedicated support of the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the European Union mission in Cairo, the ARFREEE conference and exhibition are considered one of the major platform for Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, and Sustainable Energy players from the region and abroad. The 2016 Forum was under the theme "Towards Competitive Energy Markets".
NEEDS resources had actively participated in the Forum, in its third edition, via meeting Regional expertise and Energy Stakeholders such as Arab Ministers of Electricity and Energy, Senior Government officials in the countries, heads of international and regional organizations, and CEOs of major companies operating in the fields of energy. In addition, NEEDS had actively made interventions during the conferences, highlighting NEEDS vision in the Smart Concept and applications, the Digital Utilities, and the importance of private sector as a key player in the promotion of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies.
“Digital Energy Show – DES ” event, Madrid – Spain BARTER - May 24 and 26, 2016
NEEDS had participated in the Digital Energy Show (DES) that was held from May 24th to 26th, 2016, in Madrid – Spain, in the presence of more than 18000 participants including CEOs, Business Owners, Presidents and Directors, 7000 SMEs represented by their CIOs and CMOs and other key areas directors, R&D&I Departments, 900 Innovations presented for Governments, CIOs and ICT departments from different public institutions, 230 Speakers from Private companies, Technology and Research Centers, and Universities, 160 exhibitors showing their technology and solutions and 200 Investors like Private Investors, Business Angels, Corporate Ventures, Traditional Banking.
The main goal of this event is to offer solutions for different business areas, to help improving the competitiveness of companies, and to support promoting this transformation ensuring speed and safety.
NEEDS resources contribution in this event was via attending the various conferences of 230 Speakers presenting innovations and transferring knowledge to companies, and via visiting the exhibition and contacting the various exhibitors from 160 companies, tackling topics related to Digital Transformation, Smart Cities, Internet of Things, Big Data Analytics, key management practices, Digital Intelligence, solutions within the fields of e-Government, business technology and territory push, and other topics of interest.
On November 24, 2016, NEEDS had participated in the “IBM/CBM Software Solutions Conference” event, a 1-day workshop organized by the IBM and CBM in Lebanon, where the definition of the new Cognitive Era was presented stressing on how IBM sets the Key technologies to deliver through cloud platform, as well as the implementation of the IBM Watson and IBM Bluemix® Cloud solutions which drives the traditional business into cognitive. The event took place at Four Seasons Hotel, Beirut.
“Lebanon Climate Act: Business Knowledge Platform”event, Green Mind – October 4, 2016
On October 4, 2016, NEEDS had participated in the Lebanon Climate Act: Business Knowledge Platform, aiming at enabling businesses to design and implement activities to reduce the impacts of climate change and capturing success stories to inspire others. The event is organized by Green Mind. It took place at the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture, of Beirut and Mount Lebanon, Beirut.
“International Beirut Energy Forum-iBEF” event, MCE GROUP, under patronage of Ministry of Energy and Water – September 21, 22 and 23, 2016
On September 21-23, 2016, NEEDS had participated in the 7th edition of the “International Beirut Energy Forum-iBEF”. The event is specifically dedicated to sustainable energy issues and projects. Held on yearly basis, the event is a platform to discuss topics related to renewable energy, energy efficiency, and green buildings. Concurrent with an exhibition that features some companies in the renewable energy and energy fields in Lebanon, the event took place at Le Royal Hotel, Dbayeh, Lebanon.
“Energy Coordination Meeting” event Ministry of Energy and Water, UNICEF – August 24, 2016
On August 24, 2016, NEEDS had participated in the “Energy Coordination Meeting”, a coordination meeting for Energy under the Lebanon Crisis Response Plan (LCRP). The purpose of the meeting is to show the impact of the Syrian crisis on the electricity consumption in Lebanon, and to raise awareness of the importance and criticality of funding the energy sector. The event took place at the Ministry of Energy and Water premises, Lebanon.
“Energy Management in the Lebanese Industrial Sector” event CEDRO, UNDP - July 27 and 28, 2016
On July 27 and 28, 2016, NEEDS had participated in the “Energy Management in the Lebanese Industrial Sector” event, a 2-day workshop organized by the CEDRO IV, where opportunities to save and produce clean energy in the Lebanese industrial context were discussed, as well as the supply of massive amounts of heat needed by the industrial sector through renewable energy heat generation using solar power. The event took place at Movenpick Hotel, Beirut.
“Draft Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Law in Lebanon: Positive and Negative Impacts” event LCEC - July 21, 2016
NEEDS had participated in the “Draft Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Law in Lebanon: Positive and Negative Impacts” event, an opportunity to discuss the new energy efficiency and renewable energy law in a way to ensure that the law will have a minimal negative impact on the decision makers and the end users of the energy sector, or what is referred to as a Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA). The RIA study was initiated at LCEC, with the support of OMSAR (Office of the Minister of State for Administrative Reform). SIGMA-OECD is working on the law’s impact assessment. The event took place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Hamra, Beirut.
“First Solar Power Plant at AUB Campus” event American University of Beirut - July 11, 2016
In line with Memorandum of Understanding signed between NEEDS and AUB, NEEDS had participated in the “First Solar Power Plant at AUB Campus” event. The Event is the inauguration of the first Solar Plant at AUB, organized by the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture at AUB, co-funded by the European Union CEDRO IV and ENPI CBCMED Program MEDSOLAR Projects and MONEERA, and implemented by the United Nations Development Program in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and Water. The event included a site visit of the Solar Power Plant. It took place at Bechtel Eng’g Hall, AUB, Beirut.
“Lebanon Climate ACT” event Green Mind - June 18, 2016
On June 18, 2016, NEEDS had participated in the Lebanon Climate Act, an initiative which aims at catalyzing the involvement of the private sector in addressing climate change challenges in Lebanon; the company or non-state actor can commit to a practical climate initiative to scale low-carbon solutions pertaining to energy, water, transport, waste, forestry or agriculture, or support NGOs who have similar climate endeavors. The event is organized by Green Mind, in close collaboration with Banque Du Liban and UNDP, in partnership with USJ. The event took place at Human Sciences Campus - USJ, Beirut.
“Building Integrated Photovoltaic Pilot Plant” event, Centre for Innovation & Technology at IRI & FOSTEr in Med proj - June 7, 2016
On June 7, 2016, NEEDS had participated in the inauguration of the Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) Pilot Plant at the premises of the Industrial Research Institute (IRI) in Hadath, Lebanon, after EU-funded FOSTEr-in-Med project has finalized the construction of the BIPV pilot plant. The event included a site visit of the BIPV project. The event took place at IRI, Hadath, Lebanon.
On May 31, 2016, NEEDS had participated in the “Energy Lebanon / EcOrient” event, organized by the IFP. This event is an annual event, and part of Project Lebanon 2016. The event includes exhibition and forums, covering aspects of the energy sector, alternative energy, lighting, HVAC, & technologies. The event took place at BIEL - Beirut International Exhibition & Leisure Center, Beirut.

On May 27, 2016, NEEDS had participated in the “Forum Capital Competences” event, organized by the French Institut, in partnership with Basil Fuleihan Finances Institut, ESA and Partnership program Hubert Curien CEDRE (PHC CEDRE). This event is one of the 3 events organized within the Franco-Lebanese cooperation Forum Festival "20 years of cooperation for Capital Skills", in the presence of major French and Lebanese personalities. “Beirut Design Week 2016” event, Beirut-based Design Studio - May 25, 2016
On May 25, 2016, NEEDS had participated in “Beirut Design Week 2016”, which enclosed a speed coaching event on sustainability. Participants discussed with specialized coaches on one-on-one sessions on the sustainability path.
National workshop on “Small Hydropower Plants in Lebanon” – TAIEX, EU / MEW / LCEC - May 23 and 24, 2016
On May 23-24, 2016, NEEDS had participated in the “TAIEX Workshop on Small Hydropower Plants”, organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Water in Lebanon – the Lebanese Centre for Energy Conservation, with the support of the EU-TAIEX instrument. The workshop objective was to consider the potential opportunities and main obstacles of the hydropower sector in Lebanon, determining the role of private and public sectors in the promotion, finance and establishment of hydropower or small hydropower projects for Lebanon. The event took place at ‘Radisson Blu Martinez’ hotel, Beirut.
“Planning residential PV-backup systems using PVSYST-RENAC” workshop, RENAC / LCEC / WEC - May 16 and 17, 2016
On May 16-17, 2016, NEEDS had participated in the “Planning residential PV-backup systems using PVSYST” event, hosted by the Lebanon Committee of the World Energy Council (WEC) and conducted by Berlin-based Renewables Academy (RENAC). Highlights were on design of solar hybrid photovoltaic systems, plans standardization according to LCEC NEEREA guidelines, and use of software calculations. The event took place at ‘Crown Plaza’ hotel, Hamra.

On May 6, 2016, NEEDS had participated in the NIDays event, covering the technologies, best practices, and application trends for measurement, embedded, and test systems. The NIDays 2016 is organized under the patronage of the Lebanese Ministry of Industry. This technical event provides introductory and advanced sessions as well as hands-on learning workshops, interactive technology demos and exhibition, and peer-to-peer networking opportunities. “Energy Management Standards (With Focus on ISO 50001)” workshop, LIBNOR - May 3, 2016
On May 3, 2016, NEEDS had participated in the “Energy Management Standards (With Focus on ISO 50001)” national workshop, organized by the Lebanese Standards Institution (LIBNOR), in collaboration with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and under the patronage of the Lebanese Minister of Industry H.E. Dr. Hussein Hajj Hassan. The workshop was followed by 2-day training on the implementation of ISO 50001 in Lebanon. The event took place at ‘Radisson Blu Martinez’ hotel, Beirut.
